Abstract: This book investigates the impact of labour market insecurity on the work and family life of men and women within the diverse contexts of Germany, Great Britain, and Spain. The aim is to describe country - specific trends in life course decisions, to discuss the changes in the degree of social protection in an era of globalisation, and to develop a theoretical framework for enhancing our understanding of when individuals make life course decisions. Using longitudinal data from national panel surveys, the book analyses the impact of labour market insecurity on labour market entry and early career, partnership and parenthood decisions, as well as work and family life of adult workers. This analysis sheds light on the complex interdependence of macro - level changes that impact national labour markets; certain risk profiles - coupled with country of residence, gender, career maturity, and individual resources -, and life course decision - making.
