There are substantial differences between the wages paid to women and men in the EU. What are the reasons for these differences? This report aims to shed light on the causes and provide tools to help us achieve the objective of equal pay for equal work and work of equal value. A first step in tackling unjustified gender pay differentials is to bring the invisible scale of values that applies on the labour market out into the open. This is an essential prerequisite for developing a new, more conscious scale of values, a scale of values that does justice to both women and men.
