Labour standards and structural adjustment / Roger Plant

This book is based on country studies, a review of literature, and interviews with various actors in adjustment policy making, including officials of the international financial institutions. It addresses some broader issues and argues tha many ILO standards can be of relevance in guiding current proccess of labour law reform. While these standards may not address all the issues involved in current flexibility debates, the can halp provide a balance between excessive state regulation and an arbitrary removal of existing guarantes, while national labous codes could be adapted to changing circumstances on the basis of axisting labour standards.
